I’m Jodean Cooper, the calligrapher behind Desert Plume Calligraphy. My home is Tempe, Arizona in the beautiful southwest desert where I live with my husband, dogs and chickens. We're very fortunate in that our kids and 13 grandchildren live close by! As a lover of letters and student of calligraphy, my passion is creating beautiful art using calligraphy and making as many people happy as I can with it.
I’ve long had a love affair with letters, as far back as I can remember. I loved all the different styles I’d see in books, magazines, logos, etc., and for many years used my lettering on cards, gifts, and scrapbooks. Several years ago I began my formal study of calligraphy using a traditional dip pen and pointed nib. Since that time I’ve been privileged to learn on-line and in person from internationally acclaimed calligraphers and Master Penmen alike. There is over a lifetime worth of learning in this art, and I passionately pursue opportunities for further education. I’m a member of the International Association of Master Penman, Engrossers, and Teachers of Handwriting (IAMPETH), and currently serve as Vice President of Programs for my local guild, The Calligraphic Society of Arizona.
I now pour my heart and soul into making beautiful letters. So much care goes into every piece, every dip of the pen and stroke of each letter. Still, what I find most gratifying about calligraphy is not how it makes me feel (oh, but I do love that part!). It’s how it makes the recipients of a beautifully penned piece feel – whether a card, envelope, poem, vows, or any number of other special gifts.
I hope you enjoy perusing the calligraphy in this site as much as I’ve enjoyed penning it, and I look forward to working together to make something beautiful for your special occasion.
Thank you for visiting!
